After every mass on June 2/3 we will be serving a meal. On Saturday we will be serving sandwiches, chips and drinks. On Sunday the fare will be a breakfast of pancakes and sausages. Along with the meal, a knight will visit the tables and talk about the kinds of things the Knights of Columbus do on a national as well as on a local level. We also will have a video playing on the big screen extolling these ventures. Men of a qualifying age will be asked to join our council.
About seven knights are needed after each mass to help with this recruitment effort. Membership is the life blood of this council so all hands on deck! This schedule is subject to change. Candidates arrive 1/2 hour before the event. Council representatives of 1st degree candidates should be prepared to give their candidates the 1st degree paraphernalia.
St. Mary Council 11138, 15520 N. Boulevard, Tampa Council 7201 Hall, 3204 W. Cypress Street, Tampa A Critical Role to Play
In an unprecedented address, Pope Benedict XVI speaks out publicly about grave threats to religious liberty in the United States Dear Brother Bishops, I greet all of you with fraternal affection and I pray that this pilgrimage of spiritual renewal and deepened communion will confirm you in faith and commitment to your task as pastors of the Church in the United States of America. As you know, it is my intention in the course of this year to reflect with you on some of the spiritual and cultural challenges of the new evangelization. Shredding the First Amendment
U.S. bishops and others continue to express grave concerns about an unprecedented attack on religious freedom.
The Obama administration’s new mandate requiring nearly all U.S. health insurance plans to cover contraception, sterilization and some abortion-inducing drugs has created a firestorm.
But for the U.S. bishops, with broad support from religious and secular leaders, the issue at stake is an even broader issue of First Amendment religious liberty protections and government intrusion into religious faith and practice. The bishops’ arguments have made clear that, regardless of how many people follow the Church’s teaching on contraception, government has no right to force religious organizations to violate their clear and consistent teachings. New Military Chaplain Scholarship Program Announced
The program will distribute $1 million in scholarship money to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, over a period of five years at a rate of $200,000 per year. These funds, in turn, will help produce a new generation of much-needed Catholic chaplains to minister to U.S. military personnel and their families.
Council 11138 will help to support the scholarship program to educate the seminarians who become chaplains in the armed forces. See the article in the Columbian here. Flower Delivery and Mothers Day CarnationsFlower Delivery The youth of the parish will be delivering flowers to the ladies residing at two nursing homes. Typically between 90 and 100 roses are delivered. The ladies love the flowers but more importantly they appreciate the visitors.
Mothers Days Flowers After each mass on May 13th a carnation is presented to each of the mothers of the parish to celebrate Mothers Day. The Knights are the most popular men on the planet on this day as they present the flowers! This is the only day that they can make this claim. Blood Drive
